Why do people keep writing about/caring about Lana Del Rey?

She makes music. Some people like her music. Some people don’t. She’s got big lips. There’s not much else going on with any of those things. Folks need to stop trying to find a discourse in a pop-singer, it’s really boring.

Because she is so completely devoid of talent and substance that the very fact she’s being spoken about is worth speaking about. It’s like that thing from a year or so ago where people thought vaccines were causing autism. It was a huge deal because the idea that it was even being discussed was so insane and so outlandish that it became news.

In the same way, Lana Del Ray is so bland, so boring, so utterly bankrupt of musical ability or stage presence that the very fact she’s made it this far into the public spotlight is incredible and worth talking about. She’s the Kim Kardashian of music: she’s in the spotlight, and now she’s being brought further into the spotlight because people want to know why she’s in the spotlight. 

That and hipster bashing, a lot of hipster bashing.
