Ryan Broderick's Cool Time Fun Blog

I work for Buzzfeed, run The BuzzFeed tumblr, do sketches for Student Loans For Beer Money, and when I'm not doing all that I'm usually livetweeting about the television I'm watching like a cool person.

apolloandstarbuck asked: Hey, I just read your article on Honey Boo Boo. I felt the need to tell you that the piece you wrote was brilliant. You managed to capture the essence of the show very well. There are a lot of "what the fuck?!" moments, a lot of bickering and disgusting things, but there are just as many heartfelt, surprisingly sweet family moments. I think what people expected to see was a family exploiting their youngest daughter for fame or money, but what you get is just a family full of truly happy weirdos.

Hey. Thank you! It’s so like embarrassing to say, but the Honey Boo Boo piece was one of the first things I’ve sat down and really written for the sheer joy in a long time.

I think it’s a really provocative show and while I thought the more cynical South Park and Onion parodies of it were spot on too, I didn’t feel like people were really taking it on as a whole entity. I’m glad you liked it!
